A sanctuary is a place of refuge and protection and healing - physical, emotional and spiritual protection. I felt that when entering the sanctuary of the churches shown here. That feeling reminds me of the word - "shalom" - because beyond a simple absence of conflict as in 'peace", shalom implies a state of wholeness, completeness, and well-being, encompassing both inner tranquility and positive relationships.
