PEPS - PEOPLE AND PLACES PHOTOGRAPHER - NEW YORK CITY
I was born and raised in Belgium. Photography has been my passion for the past 40 years.
I lived in different parts of the world (Denmark, France, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Turkey and US) and traveled a lot.
During my university studies in Belgium, friends gave me the nickname “Peps” which corresponds to the second half of my personality, the part that is into creativity and travelling.
My passion for photography was inherited from my Grandfather, who was born when first cameras came out and could talk about his hobby for many hours.
I owned my first compact camera at the age of 10 (a small Olympus, which was stolen during a vacation trip...), but the revelation came when my grandfather gifted me with my first reflex camera - a Nikon EM with a 50mm lens - at 12 years old. I learned from him all the basic techniques of exposure, development and printing of films, spending infinite hours in the darkroom.
Since then, I have been loyal to Nikon, from this very first film EM to digital D810. I fell in love with Leica M cameras for street photography. More recently, I am taking pride and pleasure at rediscovering the magic of "slow photography"... being back to film with a Leica MP and a Hasselblad 503CW 6x6.
I travel with my cameras; and my cameras travels with me. I try to capture the beauty of light, the essence of people around me, the mystery of streets, the truth of a special moment, the magic of streets.
Thanks for looking at my work!
