Moshe Newhouse, a contemporary abstract painter, graduated from the Montclair State University with a degree in Fine Art. His work is based on oil paint's playful and physical curiosities.
Moshe Newhouse’s abstract paintings are based on Old Masters paintings, rendered in a characteristic chiaroscuro style. He then takes on these images in a somewhat violent but ingenious manner by puncturing, puncturing, scratching or mutilating the surface using knifes, scalpels, heavy impasto paint and diluent. As a result- even though his works may seem like an eclectic contemporary artwork- they still maintain the unique characteristics of the old masters.
In the process of artistic transformation, Moshe Newhouse focuses on exposing the inside of his paintings. He removes and changes layers in order to reveal a freshness and an intensity that contrasts with traditional representations. He uses images- denying traditional representation- in order to winnow down what is most important to him as an artist.
