The wildlife of Botswana is famously anchored by the lush Okavango Delta and Chobe regions, where the planet's largest population of massive African bush elephants navigate the seasonal floodplains, shaping the riverine ecosystems for dozens of other species. In these same rich wetlands, fiercely clever black-backed jackals patrol the fringes of the bush, relying on their sharp wits to snatch scraps from the kills of apex predators like lions and leopards. This vibrant African matrix stands in sharp contrast to India’s dense jungles—where solitary Bengal tigers and ultra-rare golden tigers stalk prey alongside adaptable Indian jackals and smaller Asian elephants—as well as the chilly, subarctic rivers of Katmai, Alaska, where giant coastal grizzly bears gather to gorge on spawning salmon.
