“My use of color and texture has become an integral part of my signature style. By becoming immersed in the stunning, tropical surroundings of Sarasota, my mixed media and collage pieces are informed by the color and richness of the local flavor. I build my art from conception to execution by experimenting with color and auditioning the layout of my unique hand painted and printed papers before merging all the elements into a cohesive composition. The process of creating art has always been a source of comfort and solace. It is with this potentiality in mind that I work to convey a spirit of happiness and positivity in each art piece I create.”

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: SWEET PRINCE
My latest artwork is titled "Sweet Prince" and was inspired by a tragic incident that occurred on May 28, 2016, at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in Ohio. It is an homage to Harambe, a male western lowland gorilla who unfortunately lost his life in an emergency situation that zoo officials felt was life-threatening for a young child who had fallen into his enclosure. The incident sparked controversy and criticism, but amidst all the debate, Harambe became a beloved figure and received posthumous fame in memes, as heated discussions swirled on the internet. My artwork pays tribute to him and his unfortunate early demise. To memorialize Harambe's place at the Cincinnati Zoo, I wanted him surrounded by Fiona, a female hippopotamus, and another celebrated zoo favorite who became an internet sensation due to her health struggles, which were documented on social media. Fiona and Harambe are depicted sitting in a bed of colorful, happy flowers, surrounded by playful meerkats whose group bonds represent family and friendship. Although Harambe's story was one of an animal's life cut short, my piece memorializes Harambe while celebrating the bonds of family and friendship that transcend tragic circumstances that we may not understand. I hope my artwork brings comfort and solace to those who remember and loved Harambe.
