ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: SLO
SLO started out as a live art performance piece that was painted in a large sun filled room next to a bustling city street. The canvas was gifted to me buy a stranger and I decided to work on it in a public setting. Initially this gave it a fast paced energy and feel that was informed by my environment and the people I encountered. I later took this piece with me to various studios and homes I was living in at the time. Overall it took me 5 years to complete, which is why I would call this an Epic! The process slowed down over the years, and hence the title, SLO. I felt that most of the art I was creating were informed by deadlines and therefore had a certain urgency to them. As SLO evolved I noticed how it went against the fast paced culture I was in immersed. This artwork also belongs to a category of paintings I call paintamentary. It is documenting life through paint and woven into the painting are many elements and symbols that reflect the world I was experiencing while working on it.
