ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: NAMATAMAGO
Namatamago is my second attempt to capture the inspiration and beauty of the New England Peace Pagoda in Leverett, Massachusetts. This massive monument for peace raises from the ashes of the first Buddhist temple built on the site; it's charred ruins host a zen garden nearby- a victim of apparent arson. When met with such an overtly hateful act, the faithful of the temple chose to not press charges and to pursue no investigation, fearing a witch hunt that may tear their close-knit community apart. The wooden temple was replaced with the structure pictured here; white and gleaming, strong and secure, and almost completely noncombustible. A monument to peace and to the steadfast, unyielding, and undying faith and resilience of the Leverett Buddhist Community. Photograph by Clayton with Quixotic Studio LLC
