I love painting stories with humor, and computers have opened up endless story telling possibilities for me. What I enjoy about digital art more than any other medium is that I can change anything, anywhere, and at anytime, without limits. I’m a bit of a romantic and slightly colorblind. To me the real world is somewhat mundane, gray, and too serious. So I paint my world the way I would like it to be – idealistic, colorful and humorous.

Illustration and Excerpt from ‘Envisage’ (Book One) of the ‘Hyperxia’ trilogy (still in creation) “Is that storm heading our way?” asks Elsie, pointing to the black clouds forming higher in the mountains. “We should be safe by staying away from low areas and dry river beds,” says Blaze. “I’m not so worried about a flash flood, just don’t want to be rained on. Not a fan of being cold.” “The rain here is always warm, unless it goes for weeks.” “Weeks? It rains that long …,” she’s cut short with Blaze’s hand gently covering her mouth. “Don’t move,” he whispers. Crashing through thick brush, blocking the trail where the two had just passed, is a small herd of hairless mammoths, three cows, two calves and several older young ones. “Where’s the Dad?” she says quietly to herself. “You mean him?” he says, pointing the other direction. A bull half again larger than the females, appears a hundred-fifty yards on the other side of the trail, trapping Elsie and Blaze between. His tusks are so large and heavy that Elsie wonders how he doesn’t flip forward onto his face. Before the giant male makes a move, Blaze leaps over a bush, tucking Elsie into his arms. Behind and to their right they hear the enraged bull quickly gaining on them. Suddenly, as though caught in a trap, the creature stops abruptly, bellowing, snorting and crashing around, knocking over trees. Blaze is not about to wait around to see what just happened, he is not that curious. Their only route funnels down into a dry river bed within a narrow canyon. The creature’s pursuit will resume soon enough, Blaze knows, so he continues running down-stream. Mammoth sounds echo off the canyon rocks to drive him faster and deeper in. “What is that sound?” Elsie says. “Which sound? The low rumble or the squeaking.” He steps behind a large boulder for protection as hundreds of noisy small animals rush past heading downhill, followed by a hoard of riotous rats, causing Elsie to scramble onto Blaze’s shoulders. The rumble grows louder. They realize too late that a wall of mud and water is rushing through the canyon toward them. Bracing for the unavoidable, Elsie takes in a deep breath. Both scream for help as the flood carries them down the canyon. Kazia calls to Tay and Nara, pointing at something behind them. Several miles up the canyon they watch as black clouds begin to dump rain, like a curtain falling after the last act of a play. Within ten minutes they feel the ground rumble, increasing with intensity by the moment. Mice, rabbits, and foxes, followed by rats, rush past them for higher ground. A flash flood rushes through the nearby canyon, so they head for higher ground. “I hear someone crying for help,” says Nara. The sounds of a young girl and a deep voice echo off the fast disappearing rocks. They run down to the rising river bank and helplessly watch two desperate figures float past. The soft river bank gives way, plunging Kazia, Nara, and Req into the warm raging flow just behind Elsie and Blaze. They gasp to keep their heads above the muddy water. Tay is spared from the collapse. Looking around desperately for something to pull everyone out, he sees a floating mammoth. “No, it can’t be!” he yells, rubbing his eyes for a clearer view. Maybe a quarter mile, but gaining, he thinks. The whole river bank under him gives way. Floating around a bend in the canyon, Tay sees a large uprooted tree this side of a drop off. Nara is pulling herself out with Req clinging tightly to her back. The others are running the horizontal trunk, heading for dry ground. In a haze of exhaustion Tay snags a branch and pulls himself onto the main trunk of the tree. Resting a moment, he looks back, startled to see the bald mammoth, larger than an African Elephant, already upon him. As Tay stands, he’s nearly toppled into the water as the big bull rocks the tree in passing. Adrenalin kicks in, giving him a sudden rush of energy. Running with everything he has along the trunk, he leaps over the exposed roots onto dry ground. He turns long enough to watch the mammoth float past and tumble over the falls. Background Story To avoid annihilation of all life on Earth, and maybe even Earth itself, humanity builds eighteen-hundred spaceships to send nine billion people, and all significant plants and animals, to the nearby Earth-like world, Proxima Centauri B, 4.246 light-years away. Twenty-two years later, and one year before the anxiously anticipated Earth’s impact with a Rogue Black Hole, they begin their 500 year voyage. A satellite ship, ‘Sentinel,’ remains behind to monitor Earth’s destruction at a safe distance and report periodically to the traveling ships. The Black Hole does not make a direct hit as predicted, which would have destroyed Earth, but misses by a quarter million miles destroying Earth's Moon, which creates a large Saturn-like ring around Earth. As it passes, the Black Hole leaves behind two of its own moons to circle Earth. The largest is nearly the diameter of Earth's original Moon, and the other is a small oblong asteroid. The intense gravitational pull of this passing Black Hole causes a tremendous strain, rupturing large pockets of pure oxygen deep within Earth, which increases the atmospheric pressure and oxygen by 9%. Fresh water reservoirs deep within are split open causing ocean levels to rise hundreds of feet. World-wide climate becomes warmer, melting polar ice caps and raising the sea levels even more. The Black Hole's intense gravity also reverses Earth's Magnetic Poles and shifts Earth’s axis. Over the next thousand-years, insects grow as much as ten times larger resulting from the increase in atmospheric pressure and oxygen, and most other animals and plant life adapt in their own unique ways. Unknown creatures and also animals long extinct from before the Ice-Age now inhabit the waters and dense forests, as well as giant men six times the height of a man. Traveling at an average velocity of 17-hundred miles per second, the nine billion cryo-sleeping inhabitants arrive safely to Proxima Centauri 475 years later. But, as they near their destination, one ship, named ‘Envisage,’ is called back to Earth. In reaction to the first ship mysteriously returning, Sentinel calls on a specific ship, named ‘Synchronicity,’ to return, with both arriving nearly a thousand-years after leaving Earth. The first ship crash lands on a very changed world, killing all but twelve-thousand of its five million sleeping inhabitants. Man is no longer the dominant species. So, to protect themselves from the dangers of this new world, the survivors build technologically advanced dome cities and villages. Synchronicity arrives fifty-seven years after Envisage and launches only four pods, from the five million, to Earth’s surface-- three teens and a lion. Just before Synchronicity arrives, eight young children die at the same moment from one of the small dome villages; and within the largest of the domed cities all things ‘living’ vanish- all people, plants, animals, insects, and even molds, bacteria, and viruses. Everything is connected-- the two ships returning to Earth, with the first crashing, the other arriving fifty-seven years later and launching only four pods; the eight children dying; and the vanishing of all things living within the larger dome. There are no coincidences.
