My name is CK Shin, and I was born in South Korea. I completed my high school and college education in the United States. Currently, I work as an elementary art teacher in a public school. In addition to being a teacher, I am an artist, a wife, and a mother to twin sons and a dog. We reside in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Art runs in my family, as my father is a highly skilled portrait artist. Despite facing challenges after a stroke, he never lost passion for art has been a great inspiration to me. I find inspiration in the simplicity of everyday objects, as they hold special significance in my life. Capturing the beauty of ordinary things through my art brings me joy and fulfillment. Additionally, the beauty of botany and nature captivates me, drawing me towards exploring the world of landscapes. Recently, I have been delving into the realm of abstract landscape painting, allowing me to express my creativity in unique and unconventional ways. Regarding my artist logo, it is based on my Korean name ??? (i-go-oon). In Korean culture, names often derive meanings from Chinese characters, but my parents chose to give me a name purely in the Korean language. "I (yi)" is my last name, while "Go-Oon" encompasses qualities such as beauty, elegance, gentleness, fineness, kindness, and a sweet-hearted nature. It's worth noting that my parents were ahead of their time in the late 1960s by giving me a pure Korean name, as it was not as common during that period. I am deeply grateful to my parents for giving me such a special and meaningful name."

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: PEPPER PENCIL
This pencil drawing is a part of my ongoing pepper study experiment series, where I explore different art media. The process began with a red chili pepper that I sliced in half, revealing its intriguing inner elements. Initially, I created a pencil sketch of the entire pepper and then carefully selected the most captivating areas. After finalizing the composition, I finished each artwork with chosen medium. In this particular piece, I focused on using pencil drawing on paper. I thoroughly enjoyed this study, as it allowed me to delve into the intricacies of the subject and art media.
