This quiet painting depicts sunlight filtering into a seaside forested trail on Chappaquiddick Island in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. The subject is a lone white oak tree rooted unexpectedly in the middle of a hiking trail that curves around the trunk. This reproduction of the original oil painting reveals its impressionistic brushwork with daubs of thick paint used to describe the warm dappled sunlight penetrating thick foliage and illuminating the scrubby ground covering vegetation.
