My passion for photography was first revealed in a fourth-grade class trip to Washington D.C. when I slipped away to photograph a spiral staircase. This fascination became a path followed, leading me to obtain a BFA graduating cum laude, to bloom into a professional career in fine arts and photography. My art is a combination of photography and encaustic. I transfer images I photograph directly into an encaustic (wax) medium and embellishes with colored wax mediums I make from oil-based or powder pigments. Through my art, I continue to express concepts of growth and awareness, and to promote the preservation of our external environment, as well as the cultivation of our inner. Encaustic painting is one of the oldest forms of art known to man. Samples can be seen as far back as the Egyptian Fayum Mummy portraits which are over 2,500 years old. Encaustic paintings are resistant to moisture, acid, and mold, and thus contain excellent archival properties. I enjoy the wide range of possibilities inherent in this technique – the evocative and distressed tones, and especially the additive and subtractive qualities that come along with the process. I am located in the Los Angeles area and have been participating in my community's biannual open studio events since 2007. In addition, I teach encaustic workshops held there in my studio.
