Artistic Approach Ann Saint-Gelais, Visual and Digital Artist This multimedia artist produces sensory and timeless images. Her work is enigmatic and tinged with nostalgia. In her work, Ann Saint-Gelais explores the unfathomable, the timeless, between reality and imagination… between figuration and abstraction. The goal is the evocative power of the image… In the moment of creation, she is interested in discovering what springs from within… the emergence of something she does not yet know… For the artist, art is a life experience… It is existing daily with artistic creation… a spiritual nourishment, a dialogue with the phenomena to which she is sensitive: matter, atmospheres, light, water, air, plants, and humanity. Through the figure, it is the revealed aspect that interests him... "What matters to me is to give a kind of breath... something alive... something intimate." My paintings of figures are sometimes constructed from digital creations using collages and inspire my artistic work in a kind of synergy with more traditional mediums such as acrylic, oil, and pastel. My digital prints are partially composed by taking photographic fragments from my canvases, which I layer according to different approaches to compose my image. Sometimes, I also use collage on the canvas, which I then complete with other artistic work. Dans son travail, Ann Saint-Gelais, recherche l’insondable, l’intemporel entre réalité et imaginaire… entre figuration et abstraction. Le but recherché est la force évocatrice de l’image... Dans l’instant de création, elle s’intéresse à découvrir ce qui jaillit de l'intérieur... l’émergence de quelque chose qu’elle ne connait pas encore...Pour l’artiste, l’art est une expérience de vie... C’est exister au quotidien avec la création artistique... une nourriture spirituelle, un dialogue avec les phénomènes auxquels elle est sensible : la matière, les atmosphères, la lumière, l’eau, l’air, le végétal, l’humain. À travers le Personnage, c’est l’aspect intrinsèque révélé qui l’intéresse... « Ce qui m’importe, c’est de donner une sorte de respiration... quelque chose de vivant... quelque chose d’intime. » Mes tableaux de Personnages sont quelquefois construits à partir de créations numériques par collages et inspirent mon travail plastique en une sorte de synergie avec les médiums plus traditionnelles comme l’acrylique, l’huile et le pastel. Mes estampes numériques sont partiellement composées en prélevant de mes toiles des fragments photographiques que je superpose par couches selon différentes propositions et ainsi composer mon image. Parfois, je procède aussi par collage sur la toile que je complète par le travail plastique.
