Artist Profile – Lawren Nause is a dedicated Canadian artist whose passion for painting began at the age of sixteen. Raised in the vibrant Halifax–Dartmouth area of Nova Scotia, Lawren developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty, coastal character, and rich atmosphere of Atlantic Canada — elements that continue to inspire his work today. Working across a variety of subjects, Lawren is especially drawn to landscapes, seascapes, and still life compositions. His paintings reflect both a strong sense of place and a careful attention to light, mood, and detail. Whether capturing the quiet rhythm of the ocean, the changing seasons across rural scenery, or the timeless simplicity of everyday objects, his work invites viewers to pause and connect with the scene before them. Over the years, Lawren’s paintings have found homes in numerous private collections, a testament to the personal connection his work creates with collectors. His artistic achievements have also been formally recognized — he is the recipient of two Mayor’s Awards for Artistic Excellence from the Township of Lakeshore, Ontario, honouring both his talent and his contribution to the arts community. With decades of dedication to his craft, Lawren continues to paint with the same enthusiasm that first inspired him as a teenager, creating works that celebrate beauty, memory, and the enduring spirit of place.

Set along the sweeping shoreline of Lawrencetown Beach, this oil painting captures a simple, timeless moment on Nova Scotia’s rugged Atlantic coast. A couple bends to the sand, intent on their work as they dig for clams at low tide — a tradition rooted in patience, knowledge of the sea, and a quiet respect for nature’s rhythms. Around them, their three dogs bring a joyful contrast to the steady task at hand. They race across the open beach, paws kicking up damp sand, weaving in and out of the receding surf.
