Artist Profile – Lawren Nause is a dedicated Canadian artist whose passion for painting began at the age of sixteen. Raised in the vibrant Halifax–Dartmouth area of Nova Scotia, Lawren developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty, coastal character, and rich atmosphere of Atlantic Canada — elements that continue to inspire his work today. Working across a variety of subjects, Lawren is especially drawn to landscapes, seascapes, and still life compositions. His paintings reflect both a strong sense of place and a careful attention to light, mood, and detail. Whether capturing the quiet rhythm of the ocean, the changing seasons across rural scenery, or the timeless simplicity of everyday objects, his work invites viewers to pause and connect with the scene before them. Over the years, Lawren’s paintings have found homes in numerous private collections, a testament to the personal connection his work creates with collectors. His artistic achievements have also been formally recognized — he is the recipient of two Mayor’s Awards for Artistic Excellence from the Township of Lakeshore, Ontario, honouring both his talent and his contribution to the arts community. With decades of dedication to his craft, Lawren continues to paint with the same enthusiasm that first inspired him as a teenager, creating works that celebrate beauty, memory, and the enduring spirit of place.

Crashing Waves Inspired by the wild and untamed seashores of Nova Scotia, Crashing Wave captures a fleeting moment when the Atlantic reveals both its power and its beauty. Along these rugged coastlines, where wind and tide have shaped the land for centuries, the sea is never still. It rolls in with determination, colliding against rock and shore in a dramatic display of movement and light. In this painting, I sought to convey not only the force of the breaking surf, but the rhythm and energy that define our maritime landscape. The curling wave rises with translucent greens and deep ocean blues before exploding into white foam, illuminated by shifting coastal light. Subtle tones within the shadows hint at the depth beneath the surface, while textured brushwork brings the spray and motion vividly to life. The shores of Nova Scotia have long stirred my imagination. There is something timeless about standing at the water’s edge, hearing the thunder of a wave as it crashes and recedes, only to gather strength again. Crashing Wave is my tribute to that enduring cycle — a reminder of nature’s strength, its unpredictability, and its quiet, enduring majesty.
