Zdenek Krejci was an accomplished painter and graphic artist of a very special kind. Although he regularly used graphic and oil painting techniques, they were not alive enough for him and therefore did not challenged him enough. The most beautiful graphic sheets he created were only in preparation for further work rather than the definitive work itself. He found the technique of vitreous enamels on copper plates to be closest to his artistic expression. It allowed him to bring out the richly luminous color scale in his creations. The vitreous enamel technique has no tradition of being used in art in Bohemia. It has only been used in jewelry production. Figurative images in vitreous enamel technique are difficult to master. For Zdenek Krejci, whose artistic path has been one of continuous, and one can say successful, experimentation, learning this difficult technique has been more of an attraction than an obstruction. He had to discover every facet of the technique himself, and that's why each enamel he created is very original in itself. Not only is it original, but inimitably so. The art of Zdenek Krejci remained youthful even in his old days. He had the courage to walk away from the conventional, and in doing so, not to lose the advantages of youth, exhilarating humor and rich fantasy. Perhaps these words seem platitudinous, but they are confirmed by reality. And every single piece of Zdenek Krejci’s work convincingly proves that.
