I bought my first 35mm SLR with 50 mm in my early twenties. While pursuing a degree in journalism, I decided to take a couple of photojournalism classes and never looked back. I was awarded with an offer to shoot for the University of South Carolina. Not much money, but a whole lot of fun at the time using the best gear ever (at the time). Spending days at a time shooting architecture, sports of every kind, & portraits using nothing but Kodachrome 25 and 64 and Kodak Tri-X for black and white. All B&W printing was in house and my responsibility. The viewfinder of a camera refined my seeing and introduced me to a broader and more inclusive worldview. A beautiful gift. I later opened a small studio and successfully began landing commercial assignments mostly in the the world of advertising, healthcare, industrial and corporate annual reports etc. The work I share here is largely personal. I don't chase a singular niche. If I'm attracted to it and it speaks to me, I photograph it and print it. When new clients and collectors choose to invest in my work , well, that's the ultimate reward. MichaelBarley
