I live in Germany and I finished my first oil painting at the age of fifteen. Drawing and painting became a part of my live. Inspired by the Dutch beach and the Mediterranean landscape I first focused on scenery painting. From 2011 to 2017 I have lived in Nanjing and Shanghai (China) and was studying Chinese painting. First by Chen Jie, a master in traditional Chinese painting. 2015 I moved to Shanghai and continued my studies of traditional Chinese painting using different techniques. 'Painting is a kind of meditation for me. It creates power and silence.'

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: SPRING MELODY
Spring Melody is a painting in traditional Chinese free style (Xie Yi) technique with ink and watercolor on Xuan rice paper. The original is mounted in traditional style as silk scroll and framed with white silk! In China the calligraphy always belongs to the painting. It’s like the signature from the artist. The bigger characters are always the title of the painting. The smaller calligraphy shows the name of the artist and sometimes where and when the painting was created. On the picture is written „mei hua - bai jie hua yu shang hai” what means “Plum Blossom – painted by Bai Jie in Shanghai” Bai Jie is my Chinese name. You can also buy it without the calligraphy. Check my gallery. Plum blossom (Chinese name mai-hua, ??) are the most beloved flower in China. The Chinese see its blossoms as both a symbol of winter as well as a harbinger of spring. Plum Blossom is well known as its purity, strength and modesty. It is one of the famous Chinese traditional flowers. In the dead of winter, plum blossom blooms earlier than other flowers, and therefore it is an early sign of spring. Folk people regard plum blossom as an auspicious symbol and the herald of spring. Plum blossom symbolize five blessings. Happiness, luck, longevity, success and peace, for this meaning comes from that plum blossom have five petals and its other name in China tradition is the five blessing flower. Together with bamboo, orchid, and chrysanthemum, these four plants are considered as the four gentlemen in Chinese culture. When they are displayed together they symbolize the four seasons, the plum blossom for winter, the orchid for spring, the bamboo for summer and the chrysanthemum for autumn. In Japan you have Sakura the cherry blossom time. Quite similar like the Chinese plum blossom festival. I just love the beauty of the blossom.
