ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: OPPOSITE HEMISPHERES
The canvas splits itself like a secret waiting to be opened. A firm vertical seam runs down the center dividing two worlds that refuse to be the same color. On the left a red disc has been sliced along that seam so only a curious crescent remains its warm face looming above a deep absorbing black. On the right a yellow companion—fuller brighter—presses out from a field of cobalt blue as if the sun itself has been cropped by the edge of the frame. The two semicircles mirror one another across the divide a pair of opposite hemispheres caught in a silent conversation. Where the top halves shout with primary intensity the lower quadrants respond in cool counterpoint. Green occupies the lower left like a plain cut from a map turquoise spreads across the lower right like shallow water. Across the midline a narrow black bar runs horizontally a ledger or threshold that stitches the compartments together and yet insists on its own austerity. At its exact center sits a tiny almost diplomatic square—so small that it might be dismissed at first glance but so perfectly placed that it becomes the hinge around which the whole composition rotates. Beneath the bar a circle emerges whose edge is traced in a fine confident line. It is bisected by color: on one side bright yellow on the other a deep ocean blue.
