ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: OVERSIZED PUZZLE
The image begins with a road that refuses to be ordinary. Instead of asphalt or gravel it is a trail of oversized puzzle pieces their jagged tongues clicking into each other in long obedient rows. Bright bands — molten yellow at the center flanked by coral and deep magenta — flow forward like spilled fire and found color leading the eye away from the foreground and into a distant humming light. Each puzzle piece seems to promise an answer or at least the next question and the path curves away with the surety of something that has been arranged for you to follow. On either side of this unlikely road a forest of black silhouettes stretches upward thin trunks and spindly branches that are not so much trees as dark metronomes. From the canopy and the undergrowth hang streaks of paint that fall in vertical lines — long drips of teal orange and gold — as if someone has taken a dripping brush to the night itself and allowed gravity to compose a new kind of rain. These lines give the woods a strange rhythm: you can almost hear the slow clink of color sliding down like the distant sound of a clock made of pigments. Above a sky thick with stars is crowded not with clouds but with planets—floating orbs of saturated hue some large enough to dominate the heavens and others small as marbles. They bob there like lanterns or balloons tethered by fine lines that descend toward the treetops and a few leak soft halos and drips that echo the vertical paint in the trees. One enormous planet burns orange and red mottled and alive another is a cool turquoise its surface pocked with darker spots. Around them tiny pinprick spheres orbit like punctuation each holding its own mute story. There is a strange cinematic stillness to the scene. No feet disturb the puzzle road no hands pull at the planet-strings yet everything feels deliberately staged as if the world has been rearranged to illustrate a single inevitable journey. The light at the horizon is not merely dawn or dusk but an invitation — a luminous hinge where the colors dissolve and a suggestion of revelation waits. The viewer stands at the threshold with the road at their feet and the sky full of tethered worlds above tasked with stepping onto a path that fits together piece by piece into a forest that drips its own language of color toward an ending that manages to feel both intimate and vast. You could imagine the first step as a promise: a click of puzzle and paint and sky. The second would be harder because once you move the planets tilt and the paint-rain shifts its cadence and something that was only a tableau becomes a procession. The image does not tell you who will walk the road nor what the orbs contain it gives you instead the delicious certainty that whatever awaits is assembled out of fragments you can begin to pick up — one vibrant piece at a time — until the whole falls into place.
