ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: TALKING MUSEUM
The picture opens like the first page of a feverish scrapbook someone built out of a dream. A vast checkerboard of neon panels stretches away under a pale high sky—each square a stage: comic faces warning icons stylized creatures and symbols arranged in bold syrupy colors. The ground is never simply ground it is a surface of stories a carnival map printed in magenta lemon cyan and black. You could get lost reading it following the graphics like street signs that lead to different memories. Rising from that floor are towers stitched from posters and taped photographs tall as apartment blocks and as fragile as paper. Collage fragments cling to their sides—bits of advertisements torn magazine faces bursts of halftone dots—and each pillar seems to hum with conversations frozen on glossy stock. Between the pillars float white spheres like harvest moons drifting slow and silent their surfaces catching reflections of nearby images and adding the illusion that this place is breathing. At the center sits a planet—no ordinary globe but a patched papier-mâché world mottled with maps and magazine cutouts. It looks both ancient and freshly pasted continents made from headlines and advertising art. Around it sculptures and mannequin busts lounge as if at a salon for discarded iconography: classical heads painted in garish palettes a pair of swans curled in mock-affection and a child-sized statue staring blankly while a collage of eyes stares back. These relics are trinkets of culture repurposed into a new mythology. Pops of pastel clouds float low in the sky cotton-candy soft and improbably present in an interior that refuses to be interior. Small boxy platforms hover like stages on stilts each decorated with its own theme—comic strips floral wallpaper a smear of paint—and sometimes topped with tiny tableaux: two figures frozen mid-gesture a cluster of plastic flowers a faded billboard of a long-forgotten product. The visual noise is deliberate nothing is wasted and everything competes to be noticed. Sounds are imagined here: the rustle of paper corners the distant slap of pasted posters the soft clink as a sphere brushes a sculpture. The whole scene feels like an archive in motion—an exhibition where the exhibits rearrange themselves when you blink. Patterns repeat and clash creating a rhythm that is both playful and slightly unnerving like a song you half-remember from childhood that keeps changing its chorus. Walking through it in your mind you sense stories pressed under the surface: an ad that once promised happiness now curdled into a motif a celebrity smile reduced to a tile a protest poster recast as a comic panel. The collage doesnt hide its history—rather it celebrates the act of cutting gluing and reassembling meaning. Each object is a shard of other people’s pasts assembled into a new exuberant whole. And then as you turn another corner in this printed city the focal globe seems to tilt minutely as if acknowledging your presence. The posters murmur the paper towers lean in to listen and you realize the world here is not static at all but a mischievous talking museum—one that invites you to tear a page out and reimagine what comes next.
