Artist Statement — “Ephemeral Horizon” In the remote Killpecker Dunes, the largest active dune field in the United States, I came upon a seasonal pool during a long day of hiking. The vast expanse of shifting sand, sculpted by wind over millennia, is mesmerizing, yet unforgiving. I sensed that if I waited until sunset, the light and clouds might converge into something extraordinary. As the sun dipped below the western horizon, the pool captured the sky’s reflection, framed by the subtle contours of the dunes. The warm glow contrasted with the deepening shadows, creating a fleeting, almost otherworldly scene. Ephemeral Horizon is a meditation on patience, observation, and the quiet drama of nature. It celebrates the transient beauty of light, the subtle power of the desert landscape, and the profound sense of presence that comes from standing in such a remote, timeless place.
