*Art, like life, should sparkle* Artist, fashion designer, belly dancer—Jayne Somogy, who signs her work "Somogyi" the ethnically-correct spelling of her Hungarian surname, creates graphic, stylized, Asian-inspired, & whimsical embellished/jeweled interpretations of people, ethnic subjects, animals, and still life. Jayne comes from the Midwest, graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.A. in Theater (musical theatre performance and costume design), and spent most of her adult life in Los Angeles. At age 40, while working full-time at night and raising a son by herself, she returned to school and earned a Professional Certificate–Summa Cum Laude in Fashion Design; one of her designs won second place in the 1987 "Suit of the Future" national design contest. Although she worked mostly in administrative jobs in law and publishing, she has studied/performed dance, music, acting, drawing and design since childhood. In 2008 she moved to Conyers, Georgia, and began to focus on creating art. With a life-long love of the exotic, the soul of a gypsy, and an intense interest in indigenous populations and all the diverse characters of the Universe, her subject matter often reflects the peoples of the world and their history and customs, often done in a realistic yet whimsical style. To create dimension in her work, she sometimes adds fabric, apparel trim, feathers, jewelry, Swarovski rhinestones & beads, and paper collage. About her work, Jayne says, “I hope my sense of humor comes through in my work because . . . well, because life is just . . . FUNNY!”

This picture depicts the sweet friendship between two men who are afflicted with microcephaly, a neurological disorder where the head and brain are abnormally small. This is the disorder that is caused by the Zika Virus when it infects pregnant women. These individuals sometimes are developmentally disabled and in the early part of the 20th century they were referred to as "pinheads" and often employed as "freaks" in sideshows. However, the sideshow gave them a purpose in life and the sideshow folk often became their surrogate family. And yes, these ARE MEN; most likely they were dressed that way due to incontinence.
