There is more to our perception than what we see - we feel, we hear and we sense the space around us. Traditional photographic imagery is limited in what it communicates to us about the world. It excels in showing to the viewer 'what is', but it can be limited or a least it is difficult to show the viewer what the artist perceives 'what is''. My work is an attempt to go beyond what traditional photography offers for the photographer and viewer, yet stay with in the boundaries of what the camera produces. Good art starts with intention and it starts within the artist. The traditional photographer works within the limits of the media - the scene, the image, and the print. My works follows in the tradition of landscape photographers, yet tries to go beyond by communicating aspects of perception beyond the scene - the 'atmosphere', the 'mood', and elements that are not scene - movement, time, wind and sound. I have never liked perfection. Perfect is too sterile. The perfect is not reality. For me, what is more interesting are the imperfections, the messiness. In the West, the landscape presents itself. It is up to us to embrace what it offers and find the joy it its messiness.

This simple cloud image emphasizes the importance of looking around and taking in the less prominent, important action. This is the square version which is more abstract than the traditional landscape version. It is powerful in its own right. I suggest a black border for the canvas print.
