Abstract, serial painting, which creates the impression of three-dimensionality with the repetitive use of light & shadow and basically deals with the theme of perspective, since the viewer is given the opportunity to create completely different impressions of the same picture by rotating the picture. Perspective (from Latin perspicere 'to see through, to look through') refers to the spatial, especially linear, relationships of objects in space: the distance relationship of objects in space with respect to the location of the observer. Thus, perspective is always bound to the location of the observer and can only be changed by changing the locations of the objects and the observer in space. This statement is important in that a different perspective cannot be brought about simply by changing the viewing section without changing the location (e.g. by using a zoom lens in photography). Perspective imaging summarizes the possibilities of imaging three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface in such a way that a spatial impression is still created. The perspective representation of spatial situations can be found in the first approaches in French-Cantabrian cave paintings, for example in the Grotto of Chauvet 30,000 years ago. Other Late Palaeolithic caves, such as Trois Frères, also show foreshortening in perspective. Technically elaborate perspective methods were known to the Greeks, then the Romans (see also skenography). In Pompeii, wall frescos were found that were supposed to continue the room into a painted garden. In the centuries that followed, this knowledge was not developed further; early Christian and medieval painting used the perspective of meaning almost exclusively, i.e. the size of the persons and objects depicted was determined by their meaning in the picture, not by their spatial arrangement. Spatial effect was achieved almost exclusively through the scenery effect, which distinguished a foreground level against a background. In the Renaissance the central perspective (in connection with the camera obscura) was (re)discovered, which is similar to seeing with one eye or a distortion-free photographic image. Painting architects such as Filippo Brunelleschi (considered the "inventor" of perspective) and Leon Battista Alberti created works that showed motifs from Christian iconography in spatially correctly constructed architectural settings. In the 16th century, Renaissance artists and scholars acquired extensive mathematical knowledge of perspectives and projections, which also had an impact on the work of cartographers and the creation of city views (especially initially in Italy). An early example of a geometrically exact and extremely detailed work of this kind is the city view of Venice created around 1500 by Jacopo de' Barbari. Initially, the central perspective produced by our eye was not recognized in its regularities, and the depiction was made by means of a string which, starting from a fixed point, was stretched over a simple grid in the form of a wire mesh to the objects to be depicted. The draftsman sat next to the grid and transferred the measurements into the grid of his drawing surface ("perspective tying"). In a book from 1436, Leon Battista Alberti explained the mathematical methods used to achieve a perspective effect on paintings. In 1525 Albrecht Dürer published his book Underweysung der messung mit dem zirckel un richtscheyt, which was the first summary of the mathematical-geometrical methods of central perspective and thus also formed the basis of the perspective construction methods as a sub-area of descriptive geometry.
