I live in Germany and I finished my first oil painting at the age of fifteen. Drawing and painting became a part of my live. Inspired by the Dutch beach and the Mediterranean landscape I first focused on scenery painting. From 2011 to 2017 I have lived in Nanjing and Shanghai (China) and was studying Chinese painting. First by Chen Jie, a master in traditional Chinese painting. 2015 I moved to Shanghai and continued my studies of traditional Chinese painting using different techniques. 'Painting is a kind of meditation for me. It creates power and silence.'

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: BANANA LEAF
Banana Leaf is a traditional Chinese ink painting on rice paper, painted in the Chinese free style technique "Xie Yi" Banana leaves are a common ingredient in Chinese painting. Often used as a background together with birds or other animals. The leaves are painted with quick strokes and sweeping out of the hand. It requires a special technique to fill the brush with the right amount of ink. The XieYi technique, also called "Free Style", is painted fresh from the hand and the design of the image is subject to few restrictions. Xie means to write and Yi the meaning. A famous Master of Chinese painting, said that XieYi indicated the fact of drawing the spirit of the beings. Painting Xie Yi uses many techniques of calligraphy which privilege the spontaneity of the line. Free style paintings are thus very quickly carried out. The image is not really painted but rather written. In China the calligraphy always belongs to the painting. It’s like the signature from the artist. The bigger characters are always the title of the painting. The original is mounted in traditional style as silk scroll and framed with yellow silk.
