I live in Germany and I finished my first oil painting at the age of fifteen. Drawing and painting became a part of my live. Inspired by the Dutch beach and the Mediterranean landscape I first focused on scenery painting. From 2011 to 2017 I have lived in Nanjing and Shanghai (China) and was studying Chinese painting. First by Chen Jie, a master in traditional Chinese painting. 2015 I moved to Shanghai and continued my studies of traditional Chinese painting using different techniques. 'Painting is a kind of meditation for me. It creates power and silence.'

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: BLUE FLOWER
“Blue Flower” is a painting of a morning glory, painted in traditional Chinese freestyle technique with Chinese watercolor and ink on rice paper. Morning glories open and close with the sun, symbolizing fleeting yet sincere love and beauty that appear briefly but intensely. In Chinese culture and art, the morning glory, also known as qian niu hua, symbolizes marital bliss, love, and affection, often depicted through its graceful vines. The morning glory's association with the sad romance between the cowherd Niulang and the weaver girl Zhinu, who are allowed to meet only once a year, links the flower to the theme of restricted love and longing for reunion. In brush paintings, morning glories are rendered with flowing, graceful strokes to capture the delicate beauty of their form and the intricate patterns of their twisting vines. The flowers' vibrant colors, such as blue and purple, add a splash of vitality and cheerfulness to Chinese artworks, contributing to an overall sense of optimism. In China, the calligraphy always belongs to the painting. It’s like the signature from the artist. The bigger characters are always the title of the painting. The smaller calligraphy shows the name of the artist and sometimes where and when the painting was created. On the picture is written „qian niu hua - bai jie hua yu zhong guo gu cheng nan jing” which means “morning glory – painted by Bai Jie in historical city Nanjing” Bai Jie is my Chinese name. You can also buy it with the calligraphy! Check out my gallery.
