ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: GRID AND STRIPES
The scene opens like the first page of a surreal city’s travel guide. In the center stands a tall blocky tower made of colored rectangles—reds blues greens yellows blacks whites—stacked in a grid. It looks like a Rubik’s Cube that’s been stretched into a skyscraper each face a patchwork of order and disorder. It becomes the city’s heart: modular logical yet unapologetically playful. Above it floats a pristine white-and-gray pyramid hovering in the air. Its sharp geometry and clean surfaces feel almost sacred like a technological obelisk suspended mid-meditation. Geometrically the cube below and pyramid above echo basic Platonic forms—matter on the ground idea in the sky—hinting at a symbolic ladder from the tangible to the abstract. To the left a strange tower rises: a slender stem holding a huge sphere with a circular opening. The sphere is wrapped in gradients of warm orange red and yellow like a rising sun distilled into a single globe. It stands on a reflective surface that feels like water but shines like polished glass. This tower could be a watchful eye a solar beacon or a giant lens observing the city. Beyond it sleek white and gray skyscrapers stretch up their straight lines contrasting with the playful colors in the foreground. They are distant understated like a conventional metropolis overshadowed by this new realm of pure form and color. At ground level black-and-white stripes cross the scene like zebra crossings warped into graphic design experiments. They suggest roads or pathways but they’re too crisp too abstract to belong to cars. They function more like musical staff lines guiding the rhythm of the picture. The stripes and grids hint at logic and systems—like coordinates barcodes or the underlying grid of a computer interface. To the right massive concentric arcs of bright colors wrap around a cylindrical structure. They pull the eye inward like a target or an old-school test pattern visually “tuning” the scene. The arcs mirror the circular motif of the distant sphere-tower giving the city a recurring language of circles and stripes in dialogue with cubes and triangles. A small stand of trees appears on the left—compact green and organically shaped. Against all the straight edges and perfect curves these trees feel almost shy but essential. They ground the scene in something living reminding us that geometry is being imposed over a world that still has roots and leaves. Reflections ripple softly on the glossy surface below everything doubling shapes and colors like a painter’s echo. This refracted reality strengthens the sense that this city exists partly in the world partly in imagination. Artistically the image channels echoes of De Stijl Bauhaus and geometric abstraction: primary colors clean lines and pure forms meant to strip reality down to its logical bones. Culturally it evokes the idea of a utopian city built out of design principles—order clarity rationality—yet it also feels like a digital dreamscape an interface turned into architecture.
