He was born on May 25th, 1965, in Dhaka, Bangladesh and currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: TWO HORSE
The haor region—particularly Sunamganj’s haor—is a unique natural landscape in Bangladesh, where people survive through an ongoing struggle with nature. During the monsoon, the entire area transforms into a vast expanse of water, and in the dry season, that same waterbody turns into fertile rice fields. The primary livelihoods here revolve around a single seasonal crop—boro rice—and fishing, both limited to specific times of the year. Transportation is also seasonal: boats during the floods and narrow dirt roads when dry. Despite limited access to healthcare and education, the people of this region carry a deep cultural richness, immersed in the melodies of baul songs, rivers, and a life intertwined with nature. Life in the haor is as beautiful as it is difficult; amid their daily struggles, people smile, sing, and learn to live in harmony with their environment. As monsoon clouds darken the sky, Sunamganj’s haor slowly awakens to its own rhythm. Water floods the fields, treetops float in the distance, and a lone boy paddles his boat to school—life here often looks like a living painting. Locals know that they harvest only once a year during the boro season, so in the dry months, they work the land tirelessly, knowing early floods could destroy everything. During the rainy season, fishing and cattle grazing become vital. As evening falls, the melodies of Radha Raman and Shah Abdul Karim drift across the water. Boats are their only means of travel, water their only roads. Schools are far, hospitals even farther—yet in their eyes resides a quiet peace. Fishing becomes the main livelihood in monsoon; rivers yield a bounty of wild fish like rui, katla, boal, tengra, shing, and magur. This is haor life: a silent, graceful struggle with nature—resilient, raw, and deeply poetic.
