A.P.Polo - E-Modul - Hamburg-Neustadt (Caffermacherreihe) / Germany Photography / Digital Art The Caffamacherreihe is a street in Hamburgs Neustadt between ABC-Straße and Dammtorwall. It was named after the Caffamachers, a profession that has been common since the 17th century, especially in northern Germany, for weavers who produced a flowered velvet, the Caffa or Kaffa. It was part of a ramified area at the northern edge of the city at that time, which was incorporated into the city area at the beginning of the 17th century by the construction of the ramparts. From 1612 to 1630, this area between Fuhlentwiete and Valentinskamp was built with half-timbered houses, and then as far as Dammtorwall, a maze of narrow corridors, paths and backyards, known as the Gängeviertel, developed. In 1618, the path was named after the large number of local Kaffamacher-Reege craftsmen. Also in 1787 the velvet and silk weavers living here are mentioned. In the second half of the 20th century, most of Hamburgs last corridor district was demolished, the street was widened and the site was built over with office and commercial buildings, the most striking of which is todays Emporio high-rise (formerly Unileverhaus, built in 1958) on the corner of Valentinskamp, but also the Axel-Springer-Passage (1997) in the southern part and the complex of the Justice Department on Dammtorwall (1980/1982). The late Gründerzeit storey houses Caffamacherreihe 37-39 and 43-49 and the 18th century corridor buildings behind them between Valentinskamp and Speckstraße have been preserved. The already planned demolition was prevented in 2009 by the squatting of the artists initiative Komm in die Gänge. The birthplace of the composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), which was destroyed during the bombing raids of World War II in 1943, stood at the Caffamacherreihe at the corner of Speckplatz, today Speckstraße. The elastic modulus (E-Modul in german), also known as modulus of elasticity, tensile modulus, elasticity coefficient, elongation modulus, or Youngs modulus, is a material characteristic from materials engineering that describes the proportional relationship between stress and elongation during the deformation of a solid body in the case of linear-elastic behavior. The modulus of elasticity (or, in other notations, directly proportional to the spring constant) is thus the proportionality constant in Hookes law. The magnitude of the modulus of elasticity is the mechanical stress. E is the usual formula symbol. The greater the resistance of a material to elastic deformation, the greater the modulus of elasticity. A component made of a material with a high modulus of elasticity (e.g. steel) is therefore stiffer than a component of the same design (same geometric dimensions) made of a material with a low modulus of elasticity (e.g. rubber). In the case of anisotropic materials, in particular crystalline materials, the modulus of elasticity is direction-dependent and must be described by the elasticity tensor, whose components are represented simplified by the elastic constants. These are material constants that vary within real solids, since real solids are neither perfectly homogeneous (especially concrete) nor have constant physical properties (e.g. temperature).
