Hello, I am Leighton, a proud father of two teenagers and residing in Edmonton, Alberta. My love for drawing arts and the great outdoors started since childhood. The beautiful city of pines where I grew, gave me a way to connect and respect nature.
I discovered the art of photography in early 2002, the same year we migrated to Canada. Camping, hiking and time with nature pique my interest in photographing the beautiful Alberta Rockies. I didn’t own any professional camera at that time and was just using a point and shoot camera to photograph the family and whatever the occasion might be. Just like many new camera owners, I started off as a snap shooter.
In 2010, I bought my first ever DSLR camera, at that time I thought that the camera will magically make my images better and quickly realize my images are dull, lacking in sharpness, contrast and worst lacking in depth and sense of story. Like most digital camera shooters, I also went into the rabbit hole of chasing the latest and greatest gear thinking that it will make my images standout but I figured that’s not always necessarily the case.
Today, there are a lot of photographers who’s work inspires me. With the abundance of social media platforms, I can study images and learn from those artist who’s work I admire which fuels my desire to create a body of work with my own interpretation of familiar scenes.
Photography, for me, has always been rooted in experience. An opportunity to travel with family or friends who share the same passion. I am rediscovering that my love for photography gives me the reason to go out and experience God’s wonderful creation. The backpacking, hiking to a location, setting up the camera and waiting for the light are what gives me joy.
The waiting of the early morning glow or late afternoon sun kissing the snow covered mountain peaks, or dancing northern lights, and the fleeting autumn colors are some of the moments that draw me to photography. In the end, it’s not the photographs themselves that matter most, but the journey and the people you share it with in creating them. Taking home a good photograph is just the icing on the cake - that’s what I love the most.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the images just as much as I do creating them.
