ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: THREE WINDMILLS AT SUNSET
De Zaanse Schans in Zaandam, near Amsterdam is home to 8 windmills with great names such as the Cat (de kat), the Spotted Hen (de bonte hen) and the Cloverleaf (het klaverblad). The mills were used for varying purposes from sawmills to oil mills to mustard mills. We managed to spend hours here viewing a bakery museum and a museum of Dutch clocks, all in a setting of old historic buildings and barns in January. These three windmills were photographed near sunset set against a stormy afternoon stormy sky in January. I love the colors silhouetted behind the windmills.
