ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: NORWEGIAN RAGING SEAS
The first few days in the Lofoten Islands in the Arctic were full of challenges. There were gale force winds this day and low lighting because Norway is mostly in darkness in January. Tim, my husband watched from the car, holding his breath, knowing he couldn't protect me as I tried to protect myself and my equipment from the winds and rogue waves and still get the shot I wanted. I crouched behind a nearby boulder, close to the ground, trying to frame this shot. It was the only way I could hold the camera still enough to photograph. There was a tiny lull in the winds I was able to scamper beside the boulder. This photo was shot near noon when the sun did not rise above the horizon except for a few minutes. There is enough light to shoot, but fast shutter speeds present problems like are needed for this kind of a shot. Here is my second edited shot at Vik beach on the west side of the Lofoten Islands. I had hoped to find wonderful tidal pools in this location, but instead found a raging sea ready to gobble me up if I wasn't careful.
