Georgetown, SC marketplace downtown district is full of old charming buildings like the above building. My favorite is the old Market Town Clock building. I happened to be there during a stormy sunset over the 1700's building part of the Greek Revival old market building which now houses the Rice Museum. An earlier market, made of wood, sustained severe damage in the Hurricane of 1822 and was torn down and the tower rebuilt in 1845. Over time this historic building has served as a jail, town hall and as a slave auction and is where officials signed surrender papers at the close of the Civil War when Union Troups took over Georgetown.
