ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: ETRETAT NORMANDY CLIFFS VERTICAL
Our trip was long and exhausting, from Frankfurt, Germany to the coastline of Normandy, France in one overnight hop. Then traveling to Brittany, up to Amsterdam and then back to Frankfurt. A must do was the small town of Étretat, France separated from Britain by the English Channel. The views are stunning over the aqua waters, especially as the day comes to an end. These white chalk cliffs were once a part of the cliffs seen in England before a rift separated the two. The town beach is on the upper left of the photo with the immediately behind separated by the cliffs. The Aval cliff is at the top of the photo. The picture has been edited to a black and white monotone image. Étretat is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in Northwestern France. Known for it's tourist and farming close to Le Havre. Pictured is Porte d'Aval arch and L'Aiguille (the Needle), a pillar which rises 70 metres (230 ft) above the sea. Étretat is known for being the last place in France from which the 1927 biplane The White Bird (L'Oiseau Blanc) was seen. French World War I war heroes Charles Nungesser and François Coli were attempting to make the first non-stop flight from Paris to New York City, but after the plane's 8 May 1927 departure, it disappeared somewhere over the Atlantic. It is considered one of the great unexplained mysteries of aviation. The famous painter Claude Monet spent a lot of time in this area. We spent a couple of nights here and it wasn't nearly enough to see the area. Also available in color!
