A snowshoe hare posing in my backyard on a summer evening. The first year we lived in New Brunswick, we saw snowshoe hares frequently in the spring and summer, but have rarely seen them since. Now that we have free-range chickens and a barn cat, I'm sure they've moved on to a safer, quieter place!Snowshoe hares can be difficult to tell apart from their cousin, the Eastern cottontail, but are recognizable by their larger, furred hind feet, long ear tips, and distinctive large, round eyes.
