ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: ORCA
I was thrilled to see a small pod of orcas during a boat tour off the west coast of Vancouver Island. I have been whale watching many times in Atlantic Canada, but orcas are rare on the East Coast, so this was a special opportunity. A killer whale's dorsal fin cuts through the ocean surface, leaving a trail of disturbed water behind it. A spray of mist from the whale's blowhole catches the sunlight, creating a small rainbow effect above the water.
