Patrick Flood Artist's Biography

Patrick Flood is an artist who finds artistic expression through painting and photography. He was born and raised in the sun-drenched landscapes of Arizona. The natural beauty of the deserts and the mountains fueled part of his artistic endeavors. By the age of six, he discovered an innate creative ability and an unusually keen eye for color and composition. This revelation, coupled with a nurturing environment where art laid a strong foundation for his artistic future. His mother was an avid painter while his father, an analog photographer, introduced him to the magic of the darkroom. Such an upbringing helped foster his artistic inclinations.

His family moved to California when he was twelve. They divided their time between the desert and the beach. The open ocean, palm-lined beaches, and snowcapped mountains introduced him to a diverse array of natural wonders that would later have a great influence on his artistic choices.

An enlistment into Coast Guard took him on a seven year nautical adventure between Hawaii and Alaska. During this period, the endless oceanic vistas inspired his experimentation with acrylics, drawing heavily on the influences of surrealist giants like Salvador Dali, Hieronymus Bosch, René Magritte, Roger Dean and John Pitre for inspiration.

After being honorably discharged from the Coast Guard he continued his education in the arts, with formal studies in graphic design, drawing, painting, and the digital intricacies of Adobe Photoshop.

The advent of digital photography was a pivotal chapter in his artistic development. He found an instant connection with the medium, relishing the immediate gratification and unparalleled control it afforded him.

His work draws inspiration from unique landscapes, vibrant sunsets, and architectural oddities, with his creative process being as much about the journey as the final image. Each destination, making up a bucket list of demands requiring multiple visits, allowing him to penetrate the soul of a place. He is a true student of color and composition, He has continued to develop his skills through community engagements, such as the Redlands Camera Club, Redlands Art Association and various juried art shows. Critiques, rather than deterrents, provided valuable insights, refining his distinctive approach to seeing the world. Projects like capturing the ethereal beauty of Yosemite's firefall or the vibrant spectacle of sunset at Pfiefer Beach stand out as poignant moments in his career so far. Aside from the breathtaking imagery, it is the camaraderie and shared experiences around these creative pursuits that he has found most rewarding. His work has graced the walls of restaurants in Palm Springs and earned accolades at numerous juried shows. He remains a lifelong learner, deeply committed to further honing his skills and broadening his artistic horizons. Outside of his artistic pursuits, his life is balanced by Ownership of a school furnishing company, a role that has enabled him to create a line of school art products and move into interior design with school and office furniture. It has financially supported his travels, artistic passions, and interests in music and collectibles. Art for him, is more than an expression—it's a vehicle for lifelong learning, a testament to well-spent patience and curiosity, and a bridge connecting nature’s beauty with the human experience. As he continues his work and exploration, he remains steadfast in his belief that art, at its core, is a vital thread in the tapestry of society.

He is currently going back to his first love of painting in both acrylic and oil. He is working on a new series of abstract surreal sculptures that are unique in form and vibrant color.
