John Freeman is a Longmont, Colorado–based landscape and nature photographer best known for his work in ultra-high-resolution panoramic photography and fine art wall murals. He has built a reputation for creating extraordinarily detailed images—often called Gigaramas—that are captured by stitching together dozens to hundreds of individual photos to form massive, gigapixel-scale panoramas.
Background & Early Photography
John’s passion for photography began in his youth after receiving his first camera (a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye) when he was about 13 years old. He spent significant time in his high school’s darkroom and fell in love with the process of image creation early on. Although life and career responsibilities took precedence for many years, he never stopped nurturing his love for the medium.
Professional & Artistic Work
In 2011, at around age 60, John turned his longtime hobby into a creative business. He founded Abba’s Creations Photography, focusing on ultra-large, ultra-high-resolution photography suitable for wall murals, commercial displays, and fine art prints. His work often leverages complex focus-stacking and panoramic stitching techniques to achieve exceptional clarity and scale in landscape imagery.
Before dedicating himself to photography full-time, John had a successful career as an electronics engineer and software developer, giving him unique technical insight into digital imaging workflows and the computers needed to process gigapixel-scale files.
Teaching & Community Involvement
John also shares his expertise through workshops and classes—especially his Fall Colors Gigapixel Panoramic Photography Workshop in Colorado’s Ouray region—and has taught advanced focus-stacking and panoramic techniques to both small groups and local photography clubs.
Style & Vision
Much of John’s photography reflects his deep appreciation for the natural world. He often speaks about seeing the “handiwork of our Creator” through his camera’s viewfinder, striving to craft images that honor the beauty and complexity of creation.
John's favorite quote is:
"Sometimes I do get to places just when God's ready to have somebody click the shutter."
