Hi, my name is Larry Austin and I currently live in San Diego, California. I've love to experience different cultures and have traveled to many countries. I also lived in Berlin, Germany for eight years and China for four years. I believe that a person cannot truly understand a location and culture without living there for awhile--vacations just don't offer enough cultural insight for me. Because I lived in different countries, I speak fluent English and German. I can also hold my own in Mandarin Chinese, but I must admit that Chinese was much harder for me to learn--maybe it's because I'm getting older. I also speak and understand Esperanto, just for fun.
In the past, I was a soldier, police officer, security guard, plumber, university teacher, and semi-truck driver. I did all of these things just to experience what it was like and explore the viewpoints of people in those occupations, except for being a plumber--my dad was a plumber and I helped him on weekends while attending university. I had to give up my last job and retire from driving semi-trucks because of vision problems with my left eye. I loved being a truck driver because it gave me an opportunity to explore new surroundings and I was able to take some photos of the places I visited. These days, I still travel and look for good photography subjects.
