The Transformations Collection
I made this series of photographs while thinking about and visualising transformations transitions endings and beginnings. The past slips into the present and then into the future by a natural progression. Dying leaves become soil nutrients for new growth or maybe they start new lives as photographs and photography prints. At the moment that I photographed them these leaves were different than they had been in the days before and different than they would be in the days after. There is beauty at every stage in life and in the passage to the next stage. This beauty is as evident in the lifecycle of a leaf as in the journeys of our lives. Our pasts are always with us like a following shadow that's also a starting point for the future. I saw all kinds of significance in the shapes in these photographs: a promise or a resolution for the future a quill representing contacts with families and friends a suggested direction the feel of a reunion a dance for two a choir and even a cello. In the whole collection as a body of work I tried to show the simultaneous mixture of simplicity and complexity appearance and deeper meaning in the shapes of life.
