Hello! My name is Aura Lu, and as a 16 year-old artist, am thrilled to be given the opportunity to share my inspirations with you. Thank you for participating in this growing journey of expression with me through helping me cultivate my passion.
You see, I’ve been driven to create since I was born. Whether it was through drawing, painting, snapping photos, or writing poetry, I always had a “colorful mind”— one that allowed me the chance to pour out my genuine thoughts and emotions into a beautiful piece of art. From the beginning, I saw the world around me differently.
I hated it at first. It made me unique, or as I used to see it, the “outlier”. And that’s the thing about outliers...they’re entirely different from the others. It makes them stand out against the crowd, stand out against the masses and all the hoi polloi; they are themselves, and themselves only. The reason I despised my differences at times is because it would turn me into the rainbow that shines against a rainy sky. I’d be afraid to scintillate my hues. To color outside the lines, and go agaisnt what I’ve been told.
To be who I was: weird, creative, talented, emotional, deep, and different.
I have now grown to love it dearly.
I now realize it’s easier to let go of the stigma permeating our mind. Let go of the incessant need to blend in.
I say, let’s all blend out, not in. Let’s all be us, and not be fearful of sharing who we are.
You are beautiful, precisely and exactly the way you are, right at this very moment. And that is what I aim to capture in art.
I want to reflect the beauty each one of us has inside, and show you how magnificent it is to live your life through your own eyes.
Let’s all share our differences. Let’s all share our art.
Have a great day!
