Upon beginning a painting, I meditate with open mindedness, and while painting, I embrace myself by listening to a variety of genres of music (i.e., jazz, gospel, classical). Both help me to feel rhythm, movement and hear sounds that tap into my emotional response and then allow me to choose the textures and colors that express those emotions.
I have no plan for many of the works that I create, however, through abstraction, and by using different substrates, (i.e., canvas, cold press watercolor paper, mix-media paper), acrylics, and various tools (i.e., palette knife (my favorite), squeegee, graphite pencils), I become calm, free to move past obstacles and limits, always painting toward unknown beauty. Every creation is one of experimentation that push me further with no boundaries.
