Susan Diann Hayes became interested in photography in high school, but life happened, and she never had the chance to pursue it. Flash forward to 2020, 35 years later, whereas being primarily deaf and dependent on lip reading to communicate, she had difficulty doing so due to mask mandates. Unable to continue her vocation in the medical field, she picked up the camera again. Living in South Central Oklahoma, she prefers taking images of Western wildlife, lifestyle, and landscapes. While photography will always be her first love, she also dabbled in painting, winning second place with her Bison Sunset painting, at the 2023 Medicine Park Art Walk.
Hayes’ photography has placed Honorable Mentioned in the 2021 PCAC Art Festival, the 2021 CTAC Holiday Art Show, and the 2022 and 2023 International Photography Awards. She placed 3rd at the 2022 Medicine Park Flute and Art Festival and 2nd at the 2022 CTAC Holiday Art Show. She has also had pieces featured in the 2021 and 2022 Art Abled and Tulip Mania shows at the Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City, The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center, View 28 Gallery at The Stratus Tower in OKC, the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Visiting Center, and the Cowgirl Gathering in Fort Worth, TX. She is a Cowgirl Artist of America, MIO member and was listed as one of the 2024 top 53 Made in Oklahoma Brands to follow by Oklahomaweekly.com.
