SUR CETTE OEUVRE: OLD GEORGETOWN DOOR
Once a main entrance down by the Georgetown, South Carolina docks, this old late 1800's brick, historic building used to be a fish market , but is nown known as the "Fish House" near the nearby shrimpers moored down the way. Some of the space is now used as gallery with a main door a little safer to enter. Taken near sunset the old door exudes historic charm with golden light reflecting on the old handmade brick and weathered shutters. Georgetown is the third oldest town in the U.S. state of South Carolina and the county seat of Georgetown County, in the Lowcountry. Located on Winyah Bay at the confluence of the Black, Great Pee Dee, Waccamaw, and Sampit rivers, Georgetown is the second largest seaport in South Carolina, handling over 960,000 tons of materials a year. Charleston is the largest. Beginning in the colonial era, Georgetown was the commercial center of an indigo- and rice-producing area. Old plantations ring the area. Rice replaced indigo as the chief commodity crop in the antebellum area.
