SUR CETTE OEUVRE: NATURES LACE
I've been playing...using a drone for photography! The Florida waves against the Cochina Rocks look like lace. Unique shots are now possible off places previously not available for fine art photography. This location is off the east coast of Florida between St. Augustine and Daytona, the sand a rich rust color, bordered by large Cochina Rocks, made up of bits of tiny shells.The Cochina shells are generally very small, less than an inch and colorful. Grandma was a great shell hunter and when we visited her in Florida, we used to hunt for these same small colorful shells. Those memories are still with me today many years later. While up north the snows are keeping people inside, we are enjoying the winter in 70 degree temperatures, camping in Florida. Just look at the colors, golden sunsets, reflecting off the turquoise waves, rust sand and Cochina Rocks in the Washington Oaks State Park, Palm Coast, Florida. Coquina is a sedimentary rock composed almost entirely of sand-size fossil debris. The fossils are usually small mollusk or gastropod shells and shell fragments. Brachiopod, trilobite, coral, ostracod and other invertebrate shell debris is present in many coquinas. The fossil debris of coquina is composed of calcium carbonate, making coquina a variety of limestone. Coquina contains very little silt or clay-size particles, and its fossil fragments are lightly cemented together. This makes it an extremely porous rock that can serve as an aquifer for community and private water supplies. It can also serve as a reservoir for oil and natural gas. Cochina is found several places in the Caribbean and in Florida.
