SUR CETTE OEUVRE: CALLA LILY PURITY
Calla lilies are one of my favorite plants, easy to grow and elegant. The distinctive flowers come in many beautiful colors, including classic white, yellow, orange, pink, rose, lavender and dark maroon. The white is my favorite. The plants have smooth, sword-like foliage that's often decorated with white freckles. Calla lily foliage looks neat and attractive all season long, both before and after the flowers bloom. Whether in the garden or in a vase, fresh calla lilies are always impressive. The genus, Zantedeschia, was named in honor of the Italian botanist Giovanni Zantedeschi. The common name, calla, is derived from the Greek word for beautiful. Calla lilies are not true lilies but members of the Arum family. According to Victorian flower lore, calla lilies symbolize devotion, purity, and bliss. I photographed these beauties in a garden estate in Normany, France.
