SUR CETTE OEUVRE: FIRE CONTROL TOWER ONE IN THE CLOUDS
An ominous sky ads a bit of drama to this World War II Fire Control Tower located on the Delaware Coast between Bethany Beach (to the north) and Fenwick Island (to the south). The FCTs were designed to support soldiers keeping watch for enemy ships that might attempt an incursion of the Delaware Bay. The soldiers of the 261st Coast Artillery would them report the precise location of those ships to the fire control center at Fort Miles, which would in turn direct the firing of the many coastal defense guns.
