SUR CETTE OEUVRE: ENLIGHTENMENT ANGEL
The Angel of the Tides On a quiet evening along the Gulf coast, when the sky softened into pastel gold and the waves whispered against the sand, a fisherman named Mateo saw something no one else had seen in a thousand years. At first he thought it was the sunset playing tricks on his tired eyes. Colors—turquoise, magenta, violet, and gold—began swirling in the sky like paint drifting through water. The air grew warm and calm, and the wind stopped moving. Even the gulls seemed to pause mid-flight. Then she appeared. An angel descended slowly from the glowing clouds, her wings made of flowing light that looked like ribbons of ocean currents and sunset skies woven together. Her dress moved like living color, drifting and swirling as though it were made of the same magic that paints the horizon every evening. Mateo dropped his fishing net into the sand. He had heard stories from his grandmother—stories about the Angel of the Tides, a guardian spirit who only appeared when the world needed a reminder of beauty. She hovered above the shore, her eyes closed, glowing softly. Wherever her light touched the water, the waves shimmered like liquid glass. The sea grew calm. The dolphins that often swam offshore rose to the surface. Pelicans circled quietly above. Even the breeze seemed to bow in her presence. Mateo whispered, “Why are you here?” The angel opened her eyes, and though her lips never moved, he heard her voice inside his heart. “The world forgets how beautiful it is.” She lifted one glowing hand toward the horizon. Suddenly the sky exploded into colors brighter than any sunset Naples had ever seen—gold melting into coral, coral into violet, violet into deep ocean blue. The water mirrored the sky until it looked like the entire Gulf had turned into a living painting. Mateo felt tears in his eyes. “Beauty,” she continued, “is the language of hope.” Slowly her wings expanded, filling the sky with flowing ribbons of color. For a moment she looked like a living work of art, as if the universe itself had decided to paint an angel. Then, just as quietly as she had come, she began to rise. The colors followed her back into the clouds. The wind returned. The gulls cried again. The waves resumed their gentle rhythm. But the sky still held traces of her light. Mateo picked up his net and smiled. The world hadn’t changed. But somehow it felt more magical than it had that morning. And from that day on, whenever a sunset painted the Gulf with impossible colors, the people of the coast would say: “The Angel of the Tides is painting the sky again.”
