SUR CETTE OEUVRE: FOREST MIRRORED REFLECTIONS
On my way south from Virginia, I took a side road off my travel route in North Carolina and found myself adjacent to a picturesque rural lake in January. Still water bodies, like lakes or ponds within the North Carolina woods, act as perfect mirrors, creating a symmetrical reflection of the forest canopy and shorelines. This symmetry can be powerful, generating a sense of order and tranquility. The reflected image adds depth to the scene, essentially doubling the forest and creating a continuous visual flow grounded by the light grasses in the foreground. The interplay of light and shadow: In black and white, the dramatic contrasts between light and shadow become even more pronounced. The brightest highlights on sun-drenched branches will starkly contrast with the deep, dark shadows cast by the forest depths, creating an intense mood and highlighting the textural richness of the scene.
