I’ve always had a love of photography ever since I bought my first camera as a kid, a Kodak Brownie Starmite II. That said, I never really entertained any ideas of becoming a professional photographer when I grew up. And as life would have it, I eventually went off to college, graduated, got married, was commissioned in the Air Force, serving 5 years; then came out of the service to start a family and pursue a professional accounting career. During that time, I can honestly say that I never once thought much about photography other than for taking family and vacation photos.

Then, in 1987 I moved my wife and four children to Colorado, via a job transfer, and that changed the whole dynamics of my life forever. Shortly thereafter, both of my sons got into scouting and I volunteered to become a scout leader, an endeavor that I pursued for the next 26 years. In doing that, I became an avid hiker, backpacker, and mountain climber because; well, that’s just what a lot of people do in Colorado. While being a scout leader all those years, I organized numerous hiking, backpacking, and climbing trips for my Troop in Littleton, CO; and that’s how I picked up the nickname “T-Rex”. For obvious reasons, those three activities then became my passion, and taking a camera with me on all the many trips I went on just seemed to come naturally. I needed and wanted a way in which to record the many good times that we went on, and what better way to do that, than with a good camera and camcorder.

Through the years I’ve climbed all of the 55 Colorado 14,000ft peaks, hiked and backpacked all over the Western U.S, as well as in Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. In so doing, I’ve had the pleasure of recording unique and special moments in some of the most beautiful places on earth.

That said, it’s only been over the past 8 years or so that I’ve given any thought to seriously upgrading my equipment and enhancing my photographic skills. That, of course, has changed because of the substantial advancements that have been made in equipment and editing software. Having better equipment and software have in turn been the impetus to read numerous photography books, take some photography courses, and learn to use many of the great editing applications that are now available.

Although I’ve only been what I would consider to be a “serious” photographer for the past few years, I can honestly say that up until recently, I’ve never really given much thought to actually sharing some of the images I’ve created through the years. That, however, changed because of Pictorem.

A year or so ago, I uploaded a file to them containing my image of “Gamboa Point,” an absolutely breathtaking location along the Pacific Coast Highway in California. I had them make a 48”x36” enlargement of the image and when I received it, was blown away by way it turned out. Every time I sit in my living room and “gaze” at that photo I see something different that I’ve never seen before. That photo is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Needless to say, it got me to thinking, maybe that photo has some commercial value that could be monetized in some way and shared with others. Well, Pictorem had an answer to that, and now I’m putting together a photo gallery to explore that possibility. It’s my hope that ALL will enjoy my photos as much as I and my family do. Thanks in advance to all who take the time to view my gallery.
